Description	This document pertains to the West Virginia Mine Wars of the Early 20th Century. The letter is a petition of imprisoned mine workers in Mingo County, W.V. To the Supreme Court of Appeals on August 10, 1921. The workers claim that they have been seized and imprisoned without due cause, and have not been charged with breaking any laws so are being held unlawfully. The miners further claim corruption of the due process of law in Mingo County, and that the “lawless characters and gunmen” employed by the Baldwin-Felts agency as mine guards killed Sid Hatfield and Ed Chambers on purpose on August 1, 1921. The miners entreat the Court for a writ of habeas corpus, that they be charged or released from custody.
