Description	Because of its park-like landscape, Brevard College remains a good place to view white squirrels, a color variant of the Eastern Gray Squirrel. Their origin goes back to 1949 when a carnival truck overturned near Madison, FL; two white squirrels escaped, were captured, and given to Barbara Mull Lang. She married and moved to Brevard in 1951 and gave the caged squirrels to her grandfather, W.P. Mull. While feeding the squirrels one day. one escaped. The other one seemed so lonely, that it was released, and before long white squirrels began appearing in several areas of town. Brevard’s white squirrels are doing well as indicated by the annual White Squirrel Count undertaken each May
