| Description | In September 1927, various members of the Boone Family Association traveled along the Boone Trail from Asheville, N.C. to Boonesborough, KY. On September 3, they stopped and studied the artifacts at Lincoln Memorial University, set up as an educational institution to "educat[e] the descendants of followers of Boone, wh had lingered by the way" in Tennessee. At the Cumberland Gap Daniel Boone Post, of the American Legion, various speakers spoke on the history of Daniel Boone's journey. By September 15th, the party had traveled to Boonesborough to present a new elm tree and replace one that had died having served as the site of the first legislative assembly held west of the Appalachian mountains. Five photographs from the Boone Trail are shown. |
